Get Powerful Spiritual Life Tips
Can you imagine being able to interview over a dozen
successful and happy people who have built profitable
businesses and fulfilled lives using spiritual principles?
Each one has something to offer that you can use in
your life, at home or at work. This is great stuff and
i really love it! Read about it here:
Gratitude and Grief
"His dog up and died, he up and died,
After 20 years he still grieved."
- - Jerry Jeff Walker, "Mr Bojangles"
What I've been going through today, I don't wish
on anybody. We've had to make the decision to
euthanize our beloved Gabrielle, a part Lab, part
Border Collie that's been with us for 11 years, since
she was a puppy. Arthritis and other problems had
crippled her, and she was in constant pain.
Does the fact that it's the right decision make it any
easier? Not at all, and that's led me to think about
how we find gratitude in grief. It's not as simple as
just "looking for the good."
When someone suffers the loss of a loved one, it's
easy to try to offer comfort by saying things like
"Be grateful they're no longer in pain" or "Be grateful
for all the wonderful times you had together." Although
these things are true, I can tell you from personal
experience that they are no help at all, at first. So my
advice to you, if you have a friend in this situation, is
to stuff the good advice and just grieve with them.
After all, the more good times and love that were
shared, the deeper the loss, so trying to be grateful
right away just makes it worse. Right now I don't
want to be grateful, I just want my beautiful friend back.
I also know over the next few weeks that my ability
to be grateful will return. And there was so much to be
grateful for with her. Her enthusiasm, playfulness,
friendliness and love brought such joy to us. She was
my hiking buddy and we covered a lot of Arizona
together. She was particularly close to my wife, who's
really broken up about this. Sandy's not ready to be
grateful just yet either, but she will be.
So here's my formula for gratitude and grief:
Grief + time = Gratitude
It takes time to fill that big empty hole that's left
in your life, so that you can move past sorrow and
loss and remember the loved one with gratitude for
the times you had together and what they brought
to your life.
We know what Gabby brought to our lives - joy and
unconditional love. She will always be missed.
Tomorrow I'll feel just a little bit better,
Wes
