It's Simple and Not a Secret
"You'll start having more of what you love
when you start loving what you have."
- - James Arthur Ray
Do you ever get confused by all the ideas, formulas,
systems and study programs that are out there,
promising you the secrets to the life of your dreams?
Yeah, me too. What I want is something simple and
easy to remember that I can apply to just about every
situation in my life. Something that will make me feel
better AND create positive results.
OK, here's the best one I've found. It meets all the above
criteria and you can start practicing it before you get to
the end of this newsletter. It's taught by every business
and spiritual success teacher I know - because it
works!
Are you ready? OK, here it is.
Be genuinely grateful for every person, place or condition
in your life right now!
Hmmm, I know what you're thinking. "Wes, you gotta be
nuts!" Well, I did leave one thing out. This is simple, but
it isn't always easy. And, no, I'm not nuts. As I said,
almost every teacher has some version of this principle
in their material.
In fact, in Joe Vitale's recent book, "The Key" he lists
gratitude as one of the ways to clear old limiting beliefs.
Why does it work? Because resentment, fear and
anxiety can't coexist with gratitude. Those negative
feelings push away the good things we want, while
gratitude attracts them.
Think about your kids (or kids you know). If they're
appreciative of the things they have, you enjoy giving
them more. If they're always whining, you don't. You
know they won't appreciate the new stuff either.
And that's another important point. Vitale quotes
Socrates as saying, "He who is not content with what
he has would not be contented with what he would
like to have." And we'd all like to be contented, right?
So start with what you have. Find something good,
some benefit, some blessing, in everything. Catch
yourself when you complain and turn it into a gratitude
statement. I know that some circumstances are so
adverse that you can't be grateful FOR them, but you
can find some good things coming as a result, and be
grateful for them.
Michael Beckwith calls adversity "an initiation into
service" because it prepares you to effectively serve
others in adversity. There is ALWAYS something to
be grateful for, if you look.
So there you are. It's simple, it's easy to remember,
and it creates positive results. All it costs you is
giving up complaining, resenting, suffering and
martyrdom. Just find the good in everything, and
be grateful.
If it isn't easy at first, just be grateful that you're
human!
I'm grateful for all of you,
Wes
